One of My Favorite Things: Traveling

EPHESUS, TURKEY

One of my favorite things is traveling and visiting ancient sites like this.  Isn’t this incredible? This huge, amazing façade behind us is the Library of Celsus. It was completed in 135 AD and destroyed by an earthquake in just a little more than 100 years later. All that remains of this massive building is only a shell. All of the grand and impressive buildings, temples and homes around the city are left broken and empty.

But, I can still imagine the hustle and bustle of this city. It was one of the largest cities of its day and held one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Just as you enter the city at the top the hill, the first thing that catches your eye is this amazing structure at the far end. I’m sure everyone who visited were impressed. It is still impressive even in this broken state.

But, I am quickly reminded that no matter how hard that man works to build big and impressive buildings, cities and empires, it can all come crashing down in a moment.
