CREATION: AN ACT OF LOVE

PICTURE IT: (Gen 1-2, Ps 139)

Just look at the tenderness of God as He created. It is absolutely beautiful when you think about the way that He brought man from the dust of the earth. I could envision Him ever so gently stooping down on a knee and picking up a handful of dust from the ground.  Our minds could not fathom or imagine what good could possibly come from such nothing. But it was so absolutely clear to God. Slowly and tenderly, He holds it in His hands and meticulously forms it and molds it with such intentionality.  I could see Him looking down and smiling with a heart of love as if He was holding a precious newborn baby in his arms. He leans over and breathes the very breath of life into his nostrils and sees his eyes open and fixate on His eyes for the very first time, clear and unveiled.  Such a tender moment of pride and love whelms up in Him. Adam, created completely different from all other living things, created by the very hand of God and in the very image of God.

But creation was not yet complete. God had one last final creation. With a smile on His face, and a twinkle in His eye, He knew exactly what He wanted to do. He took the very flesh and bones from the man and added an extra helping of beauty and mystery. God had created the perfect companion, the perfect helpmate. Both of the same DNA. Both in the Image of God. Yet, both so beautifully and uniquely different, and yet their souls would be knitted together for a lifetime as they share joy and happiness in life as companions whose hearts are bound together in love to fully live in fellowship with God.

Psalms 139 says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” God is in the business of creating and knitting together and making things wonderful out of nothing!  How could anyone ever think that man “evolved”? God debunks “evolution” very clearly right here. This is a beautiful story of love.

Genesis 2:1-3. “Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.” God has decorated the nursery, made all the preparations, and brought the baby home.

God completed the work of creation, a beautiful act of love. Later on the cross of Calvary Jesus completed the work of sacrifice, a beautiful act of love. Both acts of extreme LOVE ended with the words “It is finished”. Oh, what beautiful and perfect LOVE expressed!
